Chapter 12

Carlissa spent her time outside letting her anger build. She continuously rang the doorbell, constantly beat on the door, and repeatedly cursed at her brother. She didn’t care if anyone heard her. She wasn’t going anywhere until she got into his house and got some answers. What was he doing back? When did he get back? And who the hell was the woman staying in his house?

When she saw her the night before, Vivian told Carlissa about the fight of two days ago, which meant that Spark had come back to town at least two days before and hadn’t bothered to let her know that he was there. He hadn’t called to tell her any more about Richard’s widow or the daughters, twin daughters, she was supposed to have in Chicago.

She rang the doorbell again. To her surprise, her brother opened the door.

“Move out of the way,” she said.

“Whoa, what do you want?” Spark said, holding his position in front of the doorway. “What are you doing over here making all this noise?”

“Move out of the damn way, boy,” Carlissa screamed, pushing at him so she could get into the house. “I know you got somebody in there.”

“Carlissa, what do you want? This is my house. You can’t just barge in here anytime you want.” Although he had allowed her to do it numerous times in the past, he was fed up today. He was a grown man, and this was his house. It was so hard for him to understand how Carlissa had been able to become a high-level service manager for one of the largest banks in the state. She could act just as ghetto as Vivian, who didn’t have anything going for her, when she wanted to. “And you better calm the hell down.” His voice was loud and forceful.

Carlissa was a little taken aback. Spark had never dared to speak to her that way, and how dare he do it now? She was the older sibling. She had taken care of him when his gambling habits had caused him more problems than he could handle. She was the one in charge here.

“Who in the hell are you talking to like that, Spark?”

“I’m talking to you. You are not going to come in here with that mess. Not this time. I have company in my house, and you are going to respect that.” He noticed that she quieted down, but Spark wasn’t fool enough to trust her actions. Carlissa was sneaky. That was why she and Vivian got along so well.

He moved out of the way. Carlissa gave him a look that would have stopped the air from coming out of his lungs if she were truly as powerful as she thought she was.

“Go in there and have a seat,” he said in a commanding voice. Spark was determined to keep control of this situation for as long as he possibly could.

“Whatever,” she whispered under her voice.
